Merry Christmas! (and a Holiday Surprise in the Greenhouse)

Um, Yeah

Realization of the Day:
There are days when nothing can faze me—not even this.

I hope you got everything you wished for—along with a few surprises—for Christmas!

  3. Yikes. Me and possums, we don't get along. Their surprisingly big teeth freak me out. Also their little trick of pretending to be dead, which always makes me afraid they'll come back to life when I'm flinging the corpses left by the dogs over the gully bank.

  4. Merry Christmas, Susan. Even though this little "present" wasn't requested, I'll bet you said a little "awwwww", even while knowing it would have to go. It IS cute in its own way...

  5. We got a Christmas possum as well, though ours was in plain view on the garage roof. He sat for there until about lunch time.

  6. I must admit I have no idea what a possum is. It looks cute, but probably isn't?

  7. Hmm, I would have to say that they are not my favorite animal. But they are better then skunks.

  8. When I worked on my masters at UC Davis in CA, my thesis was about opposums. I rescued babies and older ones so I could study them. They are quite interesting little critters and, sadly, in the south opposums are not well understood. I love the photo.

  10. I had to look up what they eat after I saw this cute little guy. Looks like they might be a gardeners friend, what with eating bugs and snails!

  11. I think Santa needs a hearing aid. He misheard you when you sang, "I want a Hippopotomas for Christmas!"

  12. Possums are generally ornery in my experience. Skunks actually are not, they just get a bad rap!

  14. It looks scared. I got bit by an orphaned baby when I was younger, they have sharp little teeth, although, I've also seen them hand raised, and they're gentle then. It is cute in it's own way, maybe it was admiring your plants!

  15. So cute! I know they're pests, but I still think they're charming, despite themselves. I went out to our barn one freezing night and found one sitting inside our turkeys' food bin--scared me half to death!

I love your blog and all your fantastic recipes. Thanks for taking the time to post them!!

  16. Oh Heck No! I do not like those things! They get on my deck and eat my outside kitty's food. And growl like a great big monster. Eww! I like the coons just not the possums.

  17. How Cute!
Every animal deserves to live. They need to eat too.
    Great photo.

March 2013 update: My apologies for the inconvenience - I know word verification is a pain - but I've had to turn it on to help stop the ridiculous number of anonymous spam comments I've been getting every day. Thanks for your understanding.

Welcome to InMyKitchenGarden.com! Thanks so much for taking the time to write. While I'm not always able to reply to every comment, I receive and enjoy reading them all.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated, and I especially love to hear about what's going on in your own garden. I know, too, that other readers also delight in reading about your garden successes, failures, helpful tips, and lessons learned. Feel free to leave comments on older posts!

I try my best to answer all questions, but sometimes it takes me a few days to get to them. And sometimes, I'm sorry to say, they fall through the cracks, and for that I sincerely apologize.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope you enjoy your visits to my kitchen garden!
