Realization of the Day:
There are days when nothing can faze me—not even this.
I hope you got everything you wished for—along with a few surprises—for Christmas!

Happy Holidays to you and your unexpected visitors! Hope it was a lovely as possum-ble! I got the indoor fruit trees of my choice for christmas... do you have any recommendations?
ReplyDeleteYikes. Me and possums, we don't get along. Their surprisingly big teeth freak me out. Also their little trick of pretending to be dead, which always makes me afraid they'll come back to life when I'm flinging the corpses left by the dogs over the gully bank.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas, Susan. Even though this little "present" wasn't requested, I'll bet you said a little "awwwww", even while knowing it would have to go. It IS cute in its own way...
ReplyDeleteWe got a Christmas possum as well, though ours was in plain view on the garage roof. He sat for there until about lunch time.
ReplyDeleteI must admit I have no idea what a possum is. It looks cute, but probably isn't?
ReplyDeleteHmm, I would have to say that they are not my favorite animal. But they are better then skunks.
ReplyDeleteWhen I worked on my masters at UC Davis in CA, my thesis was about opposums. I rescued babies and older ones so I could study them. They are quite interesting little critters and, sadly, in the south opposums are not well understood. I love the photo.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute little visitor :-) Did he hang around long? Hoe that you and your family had a very happy holiday!
ReplyDeleteI had to look up what they eat after I saw this cute little guy. Looks like they might be a gardeners friend, what with eating bugs and snails!

I think Santa needs a hearing aid. He misheard you when you sang, "I want a Hippopotomas for Christmas!"
ReplyDeletePossums are generally ornery in my experience. Skunks actually are not, they just get a bad rap!
ReplyDeletewow! i just came across your blog while searching "onions long short day". i am a fellow former city girl who has landed herself in missouri. though i'm not on any acreage to speak of, i grew enough this year to warrant the purchase of a chest freezer! thanks for sharing all this relatable info! i'll be checking back often!
ReplyDeleteIt looks scared. I got bit by an orphaned baby when I was younger, they have sharp little teeth, although, I've also seen them hand raised, and they're gentle then. It is cute in it's own way, maybe it was admiring your plants!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I know they're pests, but I still think they're charming, despite themselves. I went out to our barn one freezing night and found one sitting inside our turkeys' food bin--scared me half to death!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and all your fantastic recipes. Thanks for taking the time to post them!!
Oh Heck No! I do not like those things! They get on my deck and eat my outside kitty's food. And growl like a great big monster. Eww! I like the coons just not the possums.
ReplyDeleteHow Cute!
ReplyDeleteEvery animal deserves to live. They need to eat too.
Great photo.
