The Basil SurvivedBeing Fried
Lemon Cucumber Plant Poking Out Of The Lettuce Bed I've Let Go To Seed
Realization Of The Day:
Volunteers are such wonderful gifts for the gardener. (Yes, even the zillions of morning glories.)
March 2013 update: My apologies for the inconvenience - I know word verification is a pain - but I've had to turn it on to help stop the ridiculous number of anonymous spam comments I've been getting every day. Thanks for your understanding.
Welcome to InMyKitchenGarden.com! Thanks so much for taking the time to write. While I'm not always able to reply to every comment, I receive and enjoy reading them all.
Your feedback is greatly appreciated, and I especially love to hear about what's going on in your own garden. I know, too, that other readers also delight in reading about your garden successes, failures, helpful tips, and lessons learned. Feel free to leave comments on older posts!
I try my best to answer all questions, but sometimes it takes me a few days to get to them. And sometimes, I'm sorry to say, they fall through the cracks, and for that I sincerely apologize.
I look forward to hearing from you and hope you enjoy your visits to my kitchen garden!
The basil looks good, some of mine is a bit chewed up from the beetles, but still edible.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I've had fried basil and it's good.
I know that morning glories can over-run their welcome but I love them too, even as sidewinders along the curbs or anywhere else they're not supposed to be. Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteEvery year (starting just a few weeks back) my dad starts telling the horror stories about how mom slips some morning glory seeds out too close to his raspberries, grapes, or something else in the yard. She's FORBIDDEN to grow them on the side of the yard with the vegetable garden.
ReplyDeleteThey visited a few weeks back. She confessed to me that one day she dug out her jar of morning glory seeds that she adds to every year, dumped a bunch in with a pot of dirt, stirred it all up, and then threw it out into the garden beds somewhere new - so I have a feeling there's going to be more morning glory stress coming up soon! ;-)
I haven't had any problems with the beetles eating my basil out at the garden (I think they prefer the beans and potatoes?), but they HAVE found it here at home!
Can you let all the different lettuces seed themselves and count on more good homegrown lettuce in the following year? I didn't know lettuce would come up volunteer! DEFINITELY something to look forward to when we get a house!
