Swiss Chard
Arugula
Realization Of The Day:
There is a salad growing out of the gravel walkway in my greenhouse.
If you didn't believe me before when I said how easy it is to grow arugula and other tasty greens, this should convince you. Click here to learn how you can go from seed packet to salad bowl in less than a month. Click here for a tasty way to use up all the arugula you're going to have soon.
Miscellaneous:
I'm not keeping up with my basic garden records as well as I'd hoped since starting this blog. But I am taking lots and lots of photos of the garden at its various stages--something I've never done before and that I am already finding fascinating. It's amazing how much happens in a month!
I am also behind replying to your emails and comments (here and on Farmgirl Fare), and for that I apologize. Someone recently asked me in a comment if I was really only one person. Unfortunately, yes I am. I could definitely use a couple of clones right about now (especially one who adores housework). But really, who couldn't?
oh, girl, I've said that so many times. One of me to go to my one hour commute each way job that pays the bills, one of me to do the housework (adoring it would be a real bonus!), one of me to do the "have to get done stuff" at home and one of me to do the stuff I really enjoy (um, that would be the going at so slow of a pace that you can stop and really appreciate the spider web wonders and baby turtles. Not sure how we can reconcile all of that and I suppose the best we can hope for is just a sort of compromise with a promise to ourselves not to beat ourselves up for not getting it all done.
ReplyDeleteI found your blog a couple months ago...Cary makes my heart swell up every time you write about her or show us pictures...and I don't start the day anymore without checking to see what's going on in your world and smiling. Usually smiling, but not always, but hey, life is, huh?
Thank you for sharing so much of your life and yourself. You never know what chord you might strike in someone and who knows, you might be the impetus for someone else living their dream.
How cool would that be?
P.S. I made your scones. Oh, lord, I fantasized about them when I was at work and they were at home. Can't wait until the cold weather comes and it is soup and bread time around here, armed with your recipes.
Wishing you always only the best and the strength to get through the rougher parts. I kinda think you have that though, whether you always know it or not.
Love to Cary and Dan, Buddy, Lindy , the kitty cats, llamas and all the rest of your family.
and good thoughts to Farmguy Joe. Yep, lucky with you but I bet he is pretty grand. Wishing you many happy years together. A like-minded partner makes for a world of difference between misery and being really happy in your life and yourself. I wish you both much happiness together.
I can go from seed to salad in a month? I'm totally checking out that post. I was just saying yesterday that I might pull my overcrowded leeks and put in some kind of salad green in their place...we'll see. I'm a little worried that the heat of summer will burn them to a crisp!

The Inadvertent Gardener
Once the arugula gets a foot in the door, it spreads which I'm TOTALLY not complaining about. There's a small patch in my lawn that sends up a great fragrance when I run over it with the lawn tractor.
ReplyDeleteI love it - you're really starting to convince me to try "growing a salad" of my own! :-)
