The Well Fed Network's Annual Food Blog Awards are going on now! The judges have announced the finalists in each of the 14 categories, and now it's time for you to vote. I was happy to see that some of my favorite blogs made the cut, including Organic to Be for both Best Food Blog—Group and Best Food Blog—Theme (along with the marvelous Karina's Kitchen).
Andrea's Recipes—home to Grow Your Own, the twice-a-month food blogging event that 'celebrates the foods we grow or raise ourselves and the dishes we make using our homegrown products'—is up for Best Food Blog—Family/Kids.
And of course I'm thrilled that my main blog, Farmgirl Fare, is in the running for Best Food Blog—Rural.

ReplyDeletehi, i am in Walnut creek, CA and have a fairly sized yard. would like to know what could i easily grow and relish too? sth like basil, tomatoes, chillies etc? can u suggest whr to get seeds frm easily and what wd grow fast in the weather here? i am new so could do with some advice frm u. u have a lovely blog :)

Congratulations on wanting to create an edible garden! You've asked some big questions that I can't fully answer here, but in your location you should be able to grow dozens of kinds of veggies year round.

I also highly recommend this book, The Vegetable Gardener's Bible. It's packed with helpful information and is perfect for beginners.
As for making relishes, I love this really easy green tomato relish recipe (which will last two weeks in the fridge without canning), and as you can see in the comments, a lot of other people do, too. : )
